Sgoil Chàirinis / Carinish School
Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath (CEUT) took ownership of the former school's buildings and grounds in May 2019.
We will renovate and develop the premises to create a vibrant heritage hub as an open access resource for our artefact and document collections; research, digital and genealogical facilities, and as an active hub for Gaelic and heritage learning, activities and events.

We are actively involved with many partners working to deliver community benefit projects and have a relationship with the CnES Education Department because the building acts as a base for the e-sgoil project. We have a history of working in partnership with local schools ( Primary and Secondary) and a junior branch, Oigridh CEUT. In the past activities have been limited to working in schools and at Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum.
Having a new base allows us more opportunities to develop activities around the collections, helping pupils to understand how artefacts link with their community’s past. It is hoped that investing in the younger generation will encourage them to remain involved in the future.
Once the new heritage centre is fully operational we will continue to work alongside Tagsa Uibhist, Caraidean Uibhist and Craigard to provide opportunities for elderly/ disabled people and reach out to those with an intense interest in seeing the artefacts and those that would enjoy the ambience of the centre. We also aim to collaborate with Trianaid Care Home which is within walking distance of our site.
